BCC Baseball was founded 19 years ago to provide baseball for all levels of players. The heart and soul of our program is the recreational league where 3000 classmates and friends play together and parent volunteers manage and coach the teams. We also field highly competitive select and travel teams. Our players reach their highest goals, be it high school, college or professional baseball. BCC Baseball is a non-profit organization. Funds generated by player fees and donations support our program and our community. The league adopts and maintains 20 fields in the County and provides scholarships for players who otherwise would be unable to participate.
Along with our 3,000 recreational players, BCC fields 16 in-house select teams competing at a very high level of play. Most of our players have gone on to their high school teams. BCC Baseball has 12 travel teams that compete nationally. This season’s collegiate stars, Danny Hultzen, UVA (ACC Pitcher of the Year), Sam Mulroy, Princeton (All Ivy First Team Catcher ) Hugh Adams, Florida Atlantic (Sunbelt Conference First Team Pitcher), LJ Hoes, MLB Orioles all played together in the BCC travel program and then went on to amazing high school and college careers. Check out all the alums on the BCC website.
BCC Baseball has impacted the local high school baseball teams significantly. More than 50% of this year’s JVs at Walter Johnson, BCC, Whitman and Churchill are grads of BCC baseball programs. BCC hopes to have the same impact for the local high school softball programs. We have partnered with Softball Factory to provide expert training for girls in our softball league.
BCC Baseball’s goal is to instill the values of sportsmanship, community and volunteerism while developing strong baseball and life skills.
BCC Baseball advocates the development of strong fundamental baseball skills in conjunction with an appreciation for good sportsmanship. This should be the goal of every manager in our league. When “winning” overrides these goals, we have concerns. It is for this reason that we mandate fair playing time, position changes and limits on the number of kids per team in our recreational and developmental leagues. The goal of youth sports should be to develop skills, sportsmanship, camaraderie and have fun. A coach’s greatest challenge and gratification can come from developing the less gifted players.
Baseball can play an important role in the development of our youth, teaching many of life’s lessons. In particular, how we encourage sportsmanship by our behavior as parents and coaches and how we handle its aberrations, both on and off the field impart invaluable lessons for our children throughout their lives. Although we all want the best for our children, especially the satisfaction of winning a hard fought game, it is equally important that we prepare and teach our children to lose graciously. It is for this reason that the Board of Directors developed the Parent and Spectator Code of Ethics.
