A Walk-off Win Caps Off an Eventful 12U All-Star Game

By Michael Demske (BCC Baseball Intern)

The 12U BCC Select All-Star Game at Cabin John Regional Park #2 featured some of the best players from around the league. All Stars were voted in several ways – Coach picked, player picked, best attitude, best stats, etc. The game had a professional feeling with a Public Address Announcer and individualized walk-up songs for players as they stepped up to bat. Some crowd favorites included Dodger Jake L’s, Hall of Fame, and National Ojas B’s, It's Raining Tacos.

The stage was set for a great game and the teams did not disappoint. The 12U Dodgers and Red Sox hosted the 12U Yankees and Nationals.

The scoring got underway when Joe O. of the Yankees scored from first with tremendous hustle on the base paths, getting the away team on the board early.

The home team stormed back in the bottom of the 2nd, putting up six runs. Sidney T. of the Red Sox led the charge with a two RBI single that put the home team ahead.

Jake W. of the Nationals looked dominant on the mound in the bottom of the 4th, retiring the side in order with two strikeouts.

The two teams battled it out in the late innings and the all-stars showed their grit. Each team putting their strong foot forward.

After a couple tough innings, Jacob S. of the Red Sox drove in a run with his base hit to put the home team up 10-9 heading into the last inning.

In the top of the 6th, Yankees all-star Pietro D. tripled and scored to tie the game up at ten.

Nathaniel W. of the Red Sox was the hero of the night when he hit his walk-off single to give the home team the win.

Extra touches like walkup songs, and announcers made all the difference in creating an electric atmosphere for players and fans alike. This year’s All-Star event set a great example of BCC Baseball’s goal of instilling sportsmanship, a sense of community and volunteerism while developing strong baseball, and life skills. All in all, it was a joyous night for players as they experienced what it feels like to be an all-star, and for the fans in attendance as they got to watch a spectacular ballgame with an even better ending.

Congratulations to all the Spring 2021 season 12u Select All-Stars!
